This beautiful stone Tuscan house is built in the traditional local style around a central courtyard. Originally lived in by the owners of the magnificent La Foce estate it offers gracious living and supreme comfort. The ground floor is made up of a spacious kitchen and three bedrooms, which open on to a gorgeous courtyard of rambling roses, lavender and rosemary bushes. The welcoming interior is filled with precious antiques, books, local terra cotta flooring and exposed beams. Outside are two dining areas, one in the wisteria-covered pergola and the other on the terrace, which is ideal for drinks at sunset. Then you can walk down the shady path to the nearby private pool surrounded by Mediterranean gardens.

From the terrace of this beautifully restored Tuscan farmhouse you see on the horizon the majestic towers of Siena. Located on the border of the Chianti wine region this tasteful, comfortable casa offers spectacular views of the surrounding hills, vineyards and olive groves. Inside the rooms are spacious, open, and welcoming. The exposed beam ceilings, terra cotta floors and typical Tuscan furniture all add to the charm of this ideally situated converted Tuscan farmhouse.

On the ground floor a large living room with an open fireplace leads to an archway with a second smaller sitting area, ideal for those who want a little more privacy for reading and relaxing. On the other side of the living room is the open kitchen and dining area making it easy of everyone to share in the cooking, relaxing and fun. The kitchen door leads out to a lovely garden and on to the sparkling swimming pool with its covered loggia for gracious outside dining. There is an outdoor refrigerator for drinks and a large marble table with chairs making this an ideal spot for lunch or to while away an afternoon looking out over the Southern Tuscan countryside. Upstairs is another loggia area leading to a second living room with a fireplace. The master bedroom has a terrace with magnificent views and all the bedrooms are large with bathroom en suites.

Le Sabine is one of the most beautiful villas in the Maremma, an unspoiled area on the coast southwest of Florence. It is built on the foundations of an ancient fortress, which once guarded the coast from pirates and is named after the indigenous Sabina tree. It also has wonderful views of Tyrrhenian Sea. This lovely house, which sits on 2,470 acres, is owned by a noble Italian family, who have been making remarkable wines for over six centuries. The vast estate is planted with vineyards, olive trees, vegetables and fruit and extends from the vibrant green foothills around the charming medieval village of Bolgheri down to the sea. This area also has a fascinating history as well as being the home of the famous “Super Tuscan” wines.

Great style and taste are evident throughout the villa and all rooms are very spacious with high ceilings. Le Sabine is chic, very comfortable and offers guests several indoor and outdoor seating areas. This unique property also has miles of private beach, which is reached by a short path, and a beach bungalow. There are also very pretty gardens, terraces and an artificial grass tennis court. Le Sabine is the perfect house for those wanting to explore a different and very scenic region of Tuscany while staying in a fabulous villa.

Nestled in among lush wooded hills, Santa Maria offers a sweeping view of the lovely Orcia Valley. Even though it is on the outskirts of the La Foce property, it sits on its own 15 acres of woodlands and beautifully terraced gardens designed by the famous English landscape architect, Peter Curzon. On one of the terraces lies the 16’ x 30’ swimming pool and below that is a parking lot, not visible from the house. Completely restored in 1999 the house is decorated with the original colors of Sienese farmhouses, pale yellow, pink and blue. A few fine antiques are mixed in with the simple, attractive local furnishings and the kitchen and bathrooms are equipped with every modern convenience.

The large country kitchen is an ideal place for dining, but on warm days to eat in the loggia with its barbecue and traditional wood-burning pizza oven. Better yet, if you prefer to dine under the vine covered pergola, which runs long the front of the house, you’ll have a stunning view of the Orcia valley.

Torre Della Luna – Tuscany – Italy

Borgo di Calcina di Baldignano is a small estate enjoying panoramic views in rural Tuscany. This lovely property is comprised of two separate and private residences, Calcina and Torre della Luna, which stand 150 yards apart on 20 very pretty acres consisting of a small private church, fruit orchard, woodland, sunflower fields and farmland. Calcina and Torre della Luna are rented separately though are ideal for a large family or group of friends when rented together.

The estate occupies an elevated position in the lower foothills of the lovely Alpe della Luna region near the medieval town of Sansepolcro, birthplace of artist Piero della Francesca and home of his famous work “The Resurrection”. This small but sophisticated walled town also has four restaurants listed in the Michelin guide as well as year-round events and festivals including the traditional crossbow contest the “Palio della Balestra” with rival town Gubbio. Nearby are delightful small hilltop towns including Caprese Michelangelo (allegedly the birthplace of the artist), Monterchi and Monte Santa Maria Tiberina. This is a wonderful base from which to explore many of Tuscany and Umbria’s historical sites or to simply bask by the pool in the Italian sunshine.

Torre della Luna, a charming stone farmhouse, has been lovingly restored around a shrine to San Cerbone dating back to the 12th century, which was visited by Saint Francis of Assisi on the pilgrimage route to Rome. The house has a beautifully restored stone retaining wall round the whole of the southern side of the property, with a walk-way around the top and a large arched gateway underneath with stone steps down to the south facing pool plateau with its garden and rustic pergola. The very private 10m x 5m pool has pretty views of the surrounding countryside and across to the Alpe della Luna.

Ground Floor

  • Sitting/dining room with a traditional chestnut beamed ceiling and terra cotta pianelli floor. Very comfortably furnished with large double doors opening onto the stone -floored dining terrace. A stone staircase leads to the spacious terra cotta-floored landing of the first floor.
  • Wooden locally hand-made kitchen well equipped with electric oven, gas range, dishwasher and fridge/freezer. The view from the window is through the arch and down the stone steps to the pool.
  • Outside staircase leading up to the roof and a large (26′ x 20 railed terrace with a terra cotta floor and small sitting room (currently used for storage only).

  • Large light and airy bedroom with king-size bed, lovely wooden floor and wonderful views down the valley in one direction and across the pool terrace towards Anghiari in the other.

Notes: Pets may be accommodated, please inquire at time of booking. Linen and towels are changed weekly and electricity, gas and hot water are included. Cots and high chairs may be available. The house isn’t recommended for small children and non-smokers are preferred.

Distances: Sansepolcro is 4 km. (supermarkets, shops, banks, cafes, post office and a lively market twice weekly), Anghiari is 15-20 minutes, Citta di Castello is about 30 minutes and Arezzo (the location for the town shots in the Oscar-winning film La Vita e Bella) is about 45 minutes. Lake Trasimeno (boat trips, wind surfing, child-friendly beach), Perugia, Assisi, Cortona and Gubbio are all about 1 hour and Florence, Siena, San Gimignano and Bologna are about 2 hours.
