The main house sits on a large lawn dotted with palm trees and has fabulous views in every direction. This very open feeling beach house has cool tile floors and interiors that are casual and airy in feeling yet furnished with great style.

The surrounding area is famous for its pink sand beaches, deep sea and bone fishing and the best coral reefs and wrecks for diving in the Bahamas. Catch a wave on Eleuthera’s Surfer’s Beach or go over to Harbour Island and rent jet skis, boats, bicycles or golf carts for touring this charming island, which also has several good and fun restaurants and a beautiful pink sand beach.

Middle Cay has everything one would want of a tropical paradise – privacy, a wide sand beach with comfortable lounge chairs, oversized umbrellas and a cabana with a bar, table and chairs. There is also a chlorine-free freshwater pool overlooking the bay, a new dock that can accommodate a 75’ boat with a shore station with power and water and even a charming lighthouse. When renting this idyllic cay, guests have the choice of the inclusive price or “bareboat.”  Either way life on your own private island is heaven.

Notes
Middle Cay is available with a minimum three day rental except during Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year when a minimum of seven to ten days is required.

How to Get There: Middle Cay is a short one-hour flight from Miami or Ft. Lauderdale, Florida (Continental, US Air, Twin Air, Bahamas Air and charters). When traveling to the Bahamas one must have either a valid passport. Guests fly into the North Eleuthera airport, where they are met by staff and brought to 3 Island Dock (about 3 miles) for the short boat trip over to the cay. (This is the same dock where one takes the water taxi to Harbour Island.)

Sandy Hill is located on the northern end of totally picturesque Harbour Island, off Eleuthera in the Bahamas. This terrific property is built into a hill on three levels and every room has views of the ocean, which is a one-minute walk via a private path to the island’s famous coral pink sand beach and pale turquoise water. On the two main levels facing this fantastic view are wonderful 12-ft wide verandahs that are accessed through French doors from most of Sandy Hill’s large and bright rooms. On the lowest level are two additional bedrooms and bathrooms with ocean views, their own small terrace and a separate entrance.

Sandy Hill has interiors reminiscent of a Caribbean Great House with plantation style furniture, white upholstery and cushions, ceiling fans, mahogany floors on the upper level and imported Italian tile floors on the ground and lower levels. It also has such wonderful amenities as central air-conditioning, walk-in cedar closets, bathtubs in most bathrooms and a washer and dryer – - All are wonderful luxuries on the island.

Tree House is one of the most charming properties in picturesque Dunmore Town on Harbour Island, a tiny jewel lying off the north end of Eleuthera. This delightful compound has two clapboard houses with pale blue shutters and is located on quiet Hill Street, which ends with the famous steps leading down to Bay Street. Aptly named, Tree House sits high above the treetops. Its hillside position is ideal and offers cooling breezes and sweeping views to the harbor. Spectacular sunsets make the view even more sublime.

One enters this marvelous compound through a courtyard full of tropical flowering plants. Steps lead down to a classic Bahamian house on the left and the newer and larger master bedroom cottage on the right. Tree House is decorated with a wonderful, slightly bohemian mix of furnishings including objets collected on travels around the world. The palette of both interiors was inspired by the colors of the Bahamas: the pale turquoise sea, pink beaches and vibrant native flowers. A huge old-fashioned porch, which overlooks the large pretty garden and out to the harbor, is the focal point of the main house.

Tree House is within easy walking distance of the best restaurants, including the one at the Rock House down the street, and shops. The island’s beautiful pale coral pink sand beach is 1 minute by golf cart. This is a very private compound yet it’s still part of the village. Occasionally the sounds of live local music waft up through the garden and from two nearby churches come the loveliest hymns. Tree House is a Bahamian gem on an island steeped in tradition, beauty, color and pride.

Located on Harbour Island’s beautiful bay, White Lodge is a traditional Bahamian house, part of which is historic, sitting on four acres. Not only does this gated compound have magnificent water views, but it has one of only three private tennis courts on the island. Lovingly restored by its owner, White Lodge comprises a main house, master bedroom cottage and a guest cottage. On the very pretty grounds are also a small dockhouse and a dock from which there is excellent swimming and boating.

White Lodge is attractively and comfortably furnished and the bedroom layout assures privacy for guests. On one side of this charming house are two separate sleeping cottages and on the other, a large terrace with sitting and dining areas. On the harbor side of the house is a large porch with a fretwork balustrade and several seating areas. From here steps lead down to a lower terrace and to a path down a sloping lawn to the water. White Lodge is a perfect house for a family or group of friends. And taking great care of guests is Luanne, the wonderful housekeeper, who is a terrific cook.

The  cook and the maid work 6 days weekly.   The cook will set out breakfast trays, will make and leave in the fridge a salad, sandwiches or a picnic for lunch. The maid cleans the house and is in charge of laundry.  They return in the evening to prepare and serve dinner.

Blue Ruin is a lovely property situated right in town. Nestled into lush vegetation at the edge of the bay and hidden behind a blue wall, the house is entered through a wooden door that opens into a plant-filled courtyard. Straight ahead is the large and very nicely decorated living room with a seating area and dining alcove. Off it are a bar room and the master bedroom.  Three other bedrooms are down a hallway accessed via the courtyard. French doors in the living room open to a very pretty covered porch with comfy sitting and dining areas. It’s really more like an outdoor living room. From there steps lead down to a terrace and the saltwater pool. Below are a long dock and a bunkhouse, which has a separate entrance off the street.

The view across the bay to Eleuthera is beautiful, especially at sunset, and to the right is the charming waterfront and town dock. It’s always fun to bob in the pool and watch boats coming and going. Blue Ruin’s location makes it perfect for walking along Bay Street and to two of the island’s best restaurants at The Rock House and The Landing. Another great feature is that guests have a temporary membership at Coral Sands Hotel, which is right on the island’s famous pale, coral pink sand beach. Membership includes signing for meals and drinks and use of the beach facilities, tennis court and the large, fresh water heated lagoon pool. All of this makes Blue Ruin an ideal house for a family.

Plaisance is one of the most attractive and fun properties on Harbour Island. Situated right on the beautiful bay, this charming gated house sits on 3.5 acres affording guests a great sense of privacy. Wonderfully designed, Plaisance is perfect for two since the master bedroom occupies the whole top floor, great for four with a guest room downstairs and spacious for eight with a two-bedroom cottage located near the front gates. Throughout Plaisance, the décor is very nice and the whole layout is visually appealing. This is a house loved by its owner and the attention paid to detail is everywhere.

Plaisance also has one of the most unique pools anywhere. Surrounding the house, like a moat, is a winding lagoon that flows under the dining room into a large free form pool. Located just off a loggia with sitting areas, the pool looks over the lush, pretty garden to the bay. At one end of the pool is a bridge over the lagoon that leads to another sitting area. From there steps go down the lawn to the adorable dock house, which has a sitting room, and the dock, which has stairs into the water. Plaisance really is a wonderful island retreat.
